Accident Reconstruction

Our court qualified experts can reconstruct an accident to determine speed, reaction times, stopping distances, driver input, mechanical failures and consistency with the accounts of involved parties. We provide accident reconstruction services to evaluate collisions involving:

  • Passenger Vehicles
  • Commercial Vehicles
  • Motorcycles
  • Vehicle Rollovers
  • Minor Impact Accidents
  • Multi-Vehicle Accidents
  • Train & Vehicle Collisions

In addition to our mechanical engineers and ACTAR certified experts, our biomechanical experts can contribute to vehicle accident reconstruction cases. They evaluate accident/injury allegations to determine consistency of injury with damage and force received in an accident.

Please visit our trucking accident reconstruction and low speed collision pages for more information about those topics.  If an accident involves a tire failure, please visit our tire failure anlaysis page.

Crash Data Recorders

Our mechanical engineers can download crash data from electronic control modules (ECM) of passenger and commercial vehicles. Depending on the make and model of the vehicle, this data can provide the client with speed, braking, acceleration, and other key factors associated with the event. Access the CDR Vehicle list to learn which passenger vehicles record data that can be retrieved from the Airbag Control Modules (ACM), Roll-over Sensors (ROS), or Powertrain Control Modules (PCM).

Accident Reconstruction Equipment

By utilizing the 3D Laser technology, our accident reconstructionists can create a 3D replica of the accident scene including measurements, vehicle position, damage including undercarriage, distances, scene and roadway surface information. For example, if a case involves reported hydroplaning, our expert can obtain a 3D image of the roadway surface and exact measurements of pavement wheel ruts to obtain water depth measurements. With these measurements our experts can create a model of the roadway to demonstrate water depth and its role in a case. With this technology, our accident reconstructionists can create a 3D animation of how a collision occurred. Our drone can obtain overhead imagery of a collision site even in difficult to access locations.

BERLA iVe – Infotainment Information

iVe (ˈīvē) is a vehicle system forensic tool that acquires user data from vehicles and allows forensic engineers a means to quickly and intuitively analyze it. Vehicle infotainment and telematics systems store a vast amount of data such as recent destinations, favorite locations, call logs, contact lists, SMS messages, emails, pictures, videos, social media feeds, and the navigation history of everywhere the vehicle has been.
